Graphic Design 
On-Line and In-Class Formats for Grades 3rd - 5th 
and 6th &Up

Art and technology collide in this fun and imaginative course. Emphasizing real-world learning, after your students have been introduced to the tools for the job they will step into the life of a graphic designer to experience first-hand the skills needed to master the art and technology of graphic design. Their task will be to create the projects requested by their clients and then present their creations for consideration. 

Projects will vary by age group and may include ads, posters, promotional items, gifs and more. Put their creativity to work in this artistic and collaborative course.

Brainy Bytes curriculum follows the newest generation of ISTE, (International Society for Technology and Education), standards for students. Each of our curricula will expose students to technology and at least one other curriculum topic area (i.e., Science, Language Arts).

The following ISTE standards can be found throughout Brainy Bytes curriculum:

1C – Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.

INNOVATIVE DESIGNER
4A – Students know and use a deliberate design process for generating ideas, testing theories, creating innovative artifacts or solving authentic problems.
4B – Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.
4D – Students exhibit a tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with open-ended problems.

COMPUTATIONAL THINKER
5D – Students understand how automation works and use algorithmic thinking to develop a sequence of steps to create and test automated solutions.

CREATIVE COMMUNICATOR
6A – Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
6B – Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.
6D – Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.

GLOBAL COLLABORATOR
7B – Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.
7C – Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.
Technology Requirements (for teacher and participants)

Graphic Design is taught on Gimp. GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. You can find out system requirements here.
All course images and other files are included with your package.

For online: School/teachers will need to select a virtual online classroom platform. Make sure it is one that provides easy screen share options for all participants.
